Smikin deal on a cross bike or winter trainer

If you're in the market for a disc brake-equipped cross bike or winter trainer, this may fit the bill: http://www.airbornebicycles.com/products/99-delta.aspx .

The regular price of $1000 is pretty amazing considering that the Apex groupset alone retails for between $600-800; until Sept 23 they are selling the bike for $750 with free shipping anywhere in the States, which means if you have a place across the border where it can be delivered, and you spend 48 hours in the US, you could bring it back with your duty-free exemption. Or have it delivered to the Victoria Clipper office in Seattle - see the info on the web - and for $25 they'll bring it across and you can pick it up at the inner harbour and pay the customs and tax on it, which added to the sale price would still put you under the regular cost... The folks at 1-800-888-BIKE can give you immediate feedback on inventory levels and shipping times. (And no, I am not on the Airborne payroll and receive no promotional considerations for this post.)

I'm picking mine up at a relative's place near Bellingham at the end of the month, along with lots of other online bike goodies including gatorskins that will replace the knobby Kendas so I can use it for winter rides and commuting. "Old Blue", my 80s era Trek 610 with downtube shifters will serve out a well-deserved retirement on the indoor trainer. Time will tell whether I succeed at dragging my butt out of the sack on cold dark mornings or rainy weekends, but having the right equipment (disc brakes being at the top of my list) should add a measure of motivation. My soon-to-arrive Tripleshot fleece jersey, and 500 lumen zaplamp should help deal with the cold and dark parts... who knows, I might yet have to come up with an alternative to the "Fairweather" moniker! (we'll see)

For those of you who may be asking, what the #$@*&!!^? is a "Smikin deal", you will note that the i is right beside the o on a qwerty keyboard. That's SMOKIN deal. Whatever. Memo to self: check subject line also before pressing "Submit."
