Trans Canada Trail Ride - Sunday, September 9

I was thinking it would be fun to ride the Trans Canada Trail from the trail head south of Shawnigan Lake to Lake Cowichan and back. Here's the route: http://goo.gl/maps/jxcES

It would be 98 km round trip. As far as I know this whole section is unpaved so a cross bike or mountain bike would be a good idea. Depending on the group size/composition it could be a hammerfest or something more mellow. We could stop at the Kinsol Trestle to gawk and in Lake Cowichan for a snack/water break.

If anyone is interested we could meet at the Mayfair Starbucks at 7:00AM on Sunday, September 9 and carpool from there. It would probably take about 30 minutes to drive up. I don't have a car but I will try to recruit my brother-in-law, who does.

I really like the sounds of this ride. I'll see if I can make it work.

i just did the goose to the potholes and back this morning by myself, which was 94km. As a reference for how long this ride might take for cross or mountain bikes on smooth gravel, I was trying to hold 145 steady heartrate (which is actually really painful after 3 hours), and I was able to average 27.2km/h. I think it'd take 3.5 hours at "hammer" pace, and 4.5 hours at "leisurely" pace.

I'd be interested, unfortunately I can't do Sunday morning since Pro City is hosting a hill climb. I could do the afternoon or the Saturday.

I'd be interested, but only if some other people are willing to come along at a more mellow pace. I can go either day, but am also carless this weekend.
