Looking for rings to increase ratio on kids bike

I'm looking to try to increase the gear ratio on my son's roadie. It's a 24" wheel, with a 42 front ring and 13 rear.
He spins out on downhills and is frustrated as all get out. He's 12 years old.
Wonder if anyone has a line on some different rings - thinking a 50 front and 12 or 11 rear will get him up towards a 7.5 m gain ratio, which I think is within the allowable limits for racing?
I was told Steve Lund might be the guy to talk with, but I don't have your direct email, if you're listening...
Thanks,
