Thanks Norm. I am really excited about this course. I hope this is right Jen and Amy Deardon have been organizing it. They will be ride leaders along with myself. The hope is to continue making VCL and Road Races less intimidating and to increase the number of women participating in the races. I think the brave part is putting your name down to race, after that you are competing against yourself.

Norm did a great job proving that Cyclo cross could get 10 plus racers in all three womens categories it would be great to prove we could do the same with Road Races and Island Cups. The other goal is for there to be cooperation between the shop clubs and those who race. The more support and encouragement there is at races makes for a great place to be and the only place you won't to be at.

On a side note if anyone who wants encouragement in getting their mountain bike or cyclo cross bike out on the trail I'm happy to come out with you, send me a pm. Simon, Sylvan, Jen, Dr. Q and media star and former Triple Shot member Roland can provide excellent references to my trail worthiness.

I hope the course is well attended and we blow people away with the amount of Women entered at Windsor Park, Bastein Square Weekend and the Triple Short Team Trial

Great! Way to pull it together! THANKS!
:D
I am interested. I know other women who have expressed interest, so I will make sure to pass it onto them.

Are you putting up actual posters in bike shops etc? Can I get a few to put around work?

I think the most important is that your friends have a road bike and the proper equipment. Hopefully the ride leaders will be skilled enough to help all levels improve and the participants don't have to worry about what level of rider they are. Except I know that my group will have a leader who makes things up sometimes

I may be incorrect in this assumption, but it seems to me that most people who will be attending or who are interested in attending this clinic are not Cat 3 cyclists so are you going to make a change from the goal race being the Bastion Square Crit since you can't enter that race without a UCI Licence?

The goal is to have the riders enter the cat 4 event at bastion. (1,2,3 ride together, separately.) We have asked for citizen licenses to also be accepted in the cat 4 race.

I'm really glad you are signed up for the course. It is good thing to challenge yourself and see that it is really more fun than scary. I hope you have a great time and please ask questions and let us know what parts you liked and what was not so great

Hi Deb,

Thanks for catching the Cat 3 on Bastion Square. As Lister said, there is currently a separate Cat 4 and we are hoping to have this changed to include citizen.

Also although Bastion has been outlined as a target, there are many other races that this clinic will help particpants acquire and improve skills for! The clinic will just be finished as the International Cycling Festival starts here in town, which includes the Dallas TT, Harbour sprints, Tour de Victoria and a granfondo! We would like to challenge the riders and help them get started on meeting their goals for the season, whatever that looks like to them.

Cheers, Jen

All but a handful of the 30 women in the course showed up despite the rain at 5:15. (They all must be Tripleshot riders; they just don't know it yet.:) )

And they all did all the cornering drills on wet roads, AND no-one fell. :) (Normally I postpone cornering clinics when it's wet.) One novice explained to me she hit a wet manhole cover and slipped a bit, but "I wasn't sure whether to swerve around it or go over it, so it seemed like keeping my line was the better idea. Next time I'll just watch farther ahead."

And a coach told me her group kept doing more laps than instructed, just because they wanted to.

Pretty cool they are thinking like that already, and can handle a bike in those conditions. Anyone who races with these women should thank the coaches (Amy, Megan, Jenn, and Glenowyn) for training such competent and safe riders.

And a big thanks to Simon P and Paul C who volunteered this morning. They marshaled corners to warn the riders of cars, so they could focus on cornering.
