Sunday Feb 19

Post by barton bourassa »

For those of you that like long range planning, some of us are thinking of starting early on Sunday, shortly after 6 AM from Cook St village Starbucks. We usually head straight up Cook St and find our way to Mattick's Farm then across the top of Elk Lake then to West Saanich Rd and Prospect Lk Rd. South on W Saanich to Royal Oak then along the water till we meet up with the rest of the group heading north on Beach.
Last week we met up with the peleton just before the golf course on Beach. We still had about 100k to go at that point!
After 5 hours and 5 minutes we covered 140 K with legs feeling like lead! I think the plan this Sunday is to do the same thing. The idea is to maintain a strong steady pace at fairly low heart rate, 70% or so.

At coffee this morning there was some discussion of altering the route a bit. We will still start early and join up with the main group somewhere on Beach. The new plan is to do the regular Sunday ride down Wallace with a right hand turn on Willis and up that little hill to Durrance. The idea is to get in a few hills and lots of bum time in the saddle. Five hours is the goal. No one wants to hammer this, well now one I know of except for John T and we will just make him do the hills twice while the rest of us catch up!
Should be a great ride. Last weekend was tough but it was very rewarding and lots of fun!

Geez Barton, are you trying to make this ride sound even less attractive? Next thing you'll be telling people that we each have to carry bricks in our jerseys!

See you dark and early...

I don't need a Garmin to tell you that yes, there was elevation. Lots and lots of it.

Let's add an observatory or 2 next week for good measure.

I logged 2cm of vertical on Saturday when I accidentally rode off of my rollers.
