Looking for a TS member interested in some light coaching March through May for the school league.
Shoreline School's athletic directors spoke to Erc Simonson today. They said they have kids interested in the school league, but do not have a teacher or parent to act as coach.
Coaching in the school league is a mix of light technical coaching, organizing rides to venues, and supervision during the events. Cycling expertise would be nice, but not necessary. Mainly, the school needs someone who can call a few meetings at the school, organize rides and ensure the riders are entered (events are free, and registration is via the web).
You could do a great job, just holding one meeting at the school, communicating to the kids and parents via email, design and support a training schedule of 1 or 2 rides a week, and ensure the riders know about the races and get to the events. There is also an all-schools mtb ride Sunday at 2 where the riders can find others from other schools at their ability level. Total commitment would be 20-25 sessions of around 2 hours. Training sessions can be weekends or weekdays.
Schools typically provide help with copying and meetings, and will make announcements submitted by coaches (such as for practices), and provide the insurance that covers volunteers.
Interested? Contact me or Eric Simonson. You just might find the next Erinne Willock or Ryder Hesjedal!
