Double belgian points for juniors

Post by Lister Farrar »

Kudos to Evan, Alex and Brenna who made it out on an ugly morning this am for some tough intervals. Double Belgian points * all round. Also special thanks to ex-Red Truck rider Bryson Bowers who came out to push Evan. (I think Evan might have pushed him a little too!). Alex and Brenna dueled it out in each rep, often drag racing the last metres side by side. Overall, the lactate haze lasted about an hour, plus about 30 minutes for warm-up and warm-down.

Cycling BC provincial road and track coach Jeff Ain suggested more of the TS juniors come to the Pan Am Junior Track Championship trials Jan 27 in Burnaby, as much for the experience of peaking and preparation, as the long shot at selection. Evan has been keen for this idea since November, but now Brenna, Alex, and Duncan (when he's over his bug) have signed up too. So we have a mid-summer type peaking program, which is ugly enough on it's own, combined with wind, rain and dark.

We could use training partners for their interval days. If anyone is interested, particularly early in the am, let me know. I know it's not the right time of year, but it's for three weeks only. The workout is adjustable: you can come and do fewer reps, or do them on the wheel of a stronger rider. Then come around and make them dig a little deeper. :)

*Something I just made up to reflect the extra hard spring classic road races in Belgium where it's all about bad weather, bad roads, going hard, not giving up.
