Tripleshot jerseys seen on Haleakala

About 10 days ago Chris Watt and I had the pleasure of ascending a certain 10,000 ft volcano that is familiar to anyone who has visited Maui. Suffice to say that Chris, who has done this route before, was patient with me - after 5000 ft, we were stopping every 1000 ft for a few minutes of food, water & scenery. The shoulder of the road was helpfully stenciled with altitude markers and sensible reminders to "breathe." After 8000 ft, we (OK, make that me) were stopping every 500 ft (that's altitude, not distance!). Dr. Watt showed his Ironman pedigree by scampering the last 500 ft to the summit while I was head down, willing every turn of the crank. The descent was a different story with breathtaking roof-of-the-world panoramas, diving hairpins and about a 65k average speed - one for the bucket list!

On next year's list: circumnavigate the island...

Thanks for sharing, guys; you're living the dream.

I learned two things: (1) Mike's knees are better, and (2) Dr. Watt needs bib-shorts. :P
