Sunday Cross Adventure

Had another good one with the juniors (Brenna, Alex, Evan, David, Chris) and Jim Pauly. Went from PISE north through Camosun and Glendale trail to Beaver lake with only a minimal (?) number of wrong turns. Then Elk Lake west side trail (the park sign says trails "in the park" closed to bikes, but corner sign posts only say side trails are closed to bikes. Plus we saw several other bikes, plus horses) to Bear Hill, then Oldfield, Spartan, Prospect Lake to the trail head into Hartland, then south on regional, Two Trees, etc to south entrance to the park, down a road to Munn's then into the hydro right of way, then down to PISE.
S'posed to be 2 hours, took 3. Funny, it didn't feel like 3, and 3 would sound just way too epic if that had been the plan. Must be the endorphin blast. Juniors now say they 'round up' my ride time estimates...
On the drawing board: more highlands, north saanich, sooke hills.

Highlights:
- Evan cartwheeling backwards down a switchback climb still attached to his bike.
For Evan, seeing the Sikorsky sky crane flying around. (Is it because it suggests there might be a rescue available Evan?)
Brenna finishing happy after a rough start.
Chris on steep downhills- this kid can ride.
The bike carry through the marsh.
Brilliant skies
Kilarney trail switchbacks, quite do-able on a cross bike. Feels like Avatar in there.
David saying "I hate you all" early in the ride, and then saying after, 'it was worse than I thought it would be, but really fun'.
Alex riding second furthest up the switchbacks, and NOT cartwheeling backwards down the hill.
