Police find concealed sword on cyclist
By Katie De Rosa January 27, 2009
Victoria police discovered a meter-long sword concealed on a man’s bike after a routine stop for not wearing a helmet early this morning.
Police stopped a man and a woman riding bikes without helmets around 2:30 a.m. in the 700-block of Johnson Street. Officers noticed a large sword wrapped in a black bandana and taped to the tube of the bike.
The 30-year-old man, who is well-known to police, is in custody and will appear in court this morning, facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, said police spokesperson Sgt. Grant Hamilton.
The incident shows that a routine traffic stop can reveal more serious crimes, he said.
