BC Masters - Cherry Point

This past Sunday's race, the last of the 2011 BC Masters series, was the fastest, most competitive and the most fun I have had racing this summer. The course offered many challenges. The weather was hot. The 50's group numbered 17 racers. In total I think 45 racers started in the various age groupings. The fact we did 7 loops of the course meant that there were always racers on the course jumping on or dropping off. It was a highly competitive race. Ryan C had the overall best time showing once again he is a force! I finished 12th in the Australian Pursuit standings, 28 seconds back from the winning time. The stats indicated an average speed of around 38 kph over short of 70km. I was pleased with my result. I went hard at the start, recovered a bit in the middle to set up for the finishing lap - then the 40's group went by and as usual, it was game on. This day the catch was within 4kms of the finish so there was not a lot of time or distance left, only the last hill. While I had made it up the previous 6 laps without any difficulty, inexplicably the final time up presented a problem. As a result I lost contact with the lead group within 2km of the finish line. David Mercer and I TTT'd in together. I did well in the sprint at the line. I am currently at Glacier, Washington resting and preparing for the Mt Baker Hill Climb race on Sunday. Best of luck to all the Van-Wistler racers. It is going to be a hot one. Hydrate well today and drink often during the race.
