BC Masters - Lake Cowichan

The 2nd to last road race in the BC Masters series for 2011 went yesterday in Lake Cowichan. The 63k route is, in a word, HILLY, times 2. A small (29) but enthusiastic group of racers turned out for a hot, hot day of racing. At the start my bike thermometer read 39C in the direct sun. Ryan C was there as usual and took silver in his age group and 2nd overall. I had a very good day sprinting to a bronze 3rd place in my age group and 12th overall. The heat and hills took their toll all day with otherwise strong riders bonking or feeling the heat throughout the race. My training, nutrition and hydration all clicked as I finished strong at the line losing to John Guthrie in a 4 man sprint. I actually waited to make my move with 50m to go and timed it pretty well but John was too strong. Next up is the finale for the year at Cherry Point. The course is "rolling" with one medium steep kicker. Of course we do 6 laps of the circuit so it is the kicker X 6. Fun! Come on out and race. I will have room for 1 or 2 if you need a lift.
