Tour de Terra Cotta

Pretty cool event this past weekend about 60 km northwest out the 410 from Toronto. They had about 500 riders total in 4 races, including 197 in the elite race, leveraging the big population base out there. They had a completely closed 8.68 km rural road course, how sweet is that? One short nasty climb but mostly flattish. Races were 1 lap for young kids, then a 6-lap, 52 km race for intermediate grownups, sort of B+ VCL level, 114 riders in that, then a 3-lap, 26 km race for juniors 12-15 and beginner adults, 130 riders total, then the big one, like a VCL A race with 200 riders. They had a few km neutral rolling behind a Ferrari at the start, and 8 guys formed the winning break almost instantly on the first lap after the Ferrari pulled away. Five stayed away 'til the end, although the gap never got as high as 90 seconds. It looked like they were going to be brought back 'til they picked it up on lap 6 and gunned it on lap 7 to seal it. I was using a pretty skookum timing system that scored every lap to 1/100 second so you can see how the race unfolded: http://results.sportstats.ca/res2011/te ... aelite.htm
