Garmin-Cervelo has posted tons of TdF stage data downloads to Garmin Connect. Like this one, ouch: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/99279353
And this one, ouch ouch: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/102426972 - Vande Velde finished 12th on that stage. Average was 32.4 km/h despite finishing 2300 metres higher than they started and over 5,000 metres of total climbing, including doing about 12 km/h for 40 minutes up the horrific Colle dell'Agnello, which goes 9 km at 10% average, with several kicks to 12%-14% for a few hundred metres at a time. Vande Velde was saying yesterday on Twit-twatter that he had recently been talking about old 6-day races with his grandmother and great-uncle. I asked him if he knew about 6-day legend Torchy Peden from his buddy Ryder's home town. He said they were talking about Torchy but he didn't know he was Canadian, let alone from Victoria.
