Never underestimate a head injury

Very scary stuff today. Redneck crashes into a ditch, takes a long time getting back onto the road and back onto his bike, rides the last 25 km to the finish and doesn't remember what happened. Obviously he won't start tomorrow. He'd better not. Boonen shouldn't have started today, but somehow did.

"Boonen's directeur sportif left the decision on whether to continue on the rider himself after other riders complained that the Belgian was a danger to the peloton. Horner was allowed to ride to the finish in the presence of the race doctor, but he had no recollection of the crash or how long he had been chasing."

Broken nose and that extent of brain injury and they say the decision on him starting stage 8 will be taken in the morning. He has to be pulled.

Timely topic. TBI seems to be rampant in the amateur community this year as well. Just ask Wade Smith and Flounder. Lots of questions about responsible handling of the matter in the pro peloton, though.

I'll be honest, I laughed watching this.

this is exactly the same situation I was in down at Mt Hood, including getting back up to ride and have no recollection of what happened. A little eerie.
