Tripleshot Cycling

On June 26th Kim Gard / Tripleshot is putting on a road race for the BC Masters Cycling Association on Rocky Point Rd in Metchosin. We need a few more volunteers to help with registration, set up cones or hold a road sign etc. It's not hard work, and you get to heckle the riders. I think there is free fruit too.

If you can help out, either reply here or send a message to Kim. Or, if you are over 30, why not race?

It seems like we are fading a bit with our volunteerism..... As of this morning Kim still needs 8 marshals. This is a race put on by (and supporting) our club so... can we get some people to sign up here? (I note that if you have received any benefit from your association with TSC this is a GREAT way to "pay that back"!

I will need 8 volunteers to arrive @ 11:00 at Hans Helgesen School. I will assign them to flag/marshal a corner at that time. Everything else is good to go!!

What time are volunteers required until? I will ask the juniors, but they are all in the middle of exams.

Brenna and Jim Pauly will be there. I tried to post at the list but was unsuccessful.

So unless we have more volunteers by Wednesday the race is being cancelled.

Right now we have only managed 3 volunteers from our whole club...... and it has been suggested that I try to "educate Triple Shotters that being a member means more than riding around in matching pretty "outfits"."

I was planning to race but will now hold a paddle and wear a high vis vest. Count me in, Peter.

Folks, this is an important race on the masters calendar and has been a staple of the circuit for many years thanks to the efforts of Joe and Kim Gard. I see it as a point of honour that we do not drop the ball on this event now that they have stepped back. I encourage four more TSers to join me on the day.

Some more notes on the volunteers:

• Kristin is a Monday night regular, and volunteered at short notice June 12 to ride to help make up the numbers so we could have a junior cat 4 provincial championships race, (along with Minda).
  Ryan has helped organize most of the Mondays with Roland. Can someone take his place?
  David and Kate are brand new TS members, David a junior having done 2 Monday nights, and Kate having done 1/10 (?) of one TS ride, plus in the middle of exams
  Brenna (also junior) and Jim have attended most of the Mondays and provincials, and are in the middle of exams
  Jimmy, new Monday night racer, done a few TS rides
  Simon and Deb are the only regular riders, Monday regulars, C group stalwarts.

Be nice to see some other ride regulars come out too. Same and/or new folks doing too many jobs. Besides it's fun; the races are social, the group's fun.

To be clear, racing would be fun as this is a great course (read: humbling) to ride but I am holding to my commitment to support the event from the side of the road to be sure it goes off without a hitch. I may be incorrect in my recollection but I recall this course is somewhat challenging to marshal given the speeds taken through some of the corners and the limitations we have to impede traffic. Conversely, it's an uphill finish after a nasty selection process (Lindholm hill x7) an therefore fairly easy to pick placings.

Peter, I know you said everyone should arrive at 11:00 but would you mind spelling out options for required duties ahead of time so folks can choose what best suits them, their experience level and time constraints (e.g., I suggest sign-on as an option for Jane and maybe course setup for those of us that might entertain the idea of volunteering before participating )?
