Tuesday's race was a super d, a modified downhill with some climbing. Our version was Fun Trail, with a little climbing, enough downhill to keep the dirt jumpers happy, but safe enough to keep the school sport system happy. 36 students out. TS/Oak Bay rider Liam Farrar was second junior boy (grade 10) 2 seconds behind AviaWest/ Reynolds Logan Simonson (gr 9). Both were just a few seconds behind Reynolds winner Phillipe Janicki in gr 12.
Tenuously TS-connected/Central Una (It was the bacon) Farrar won the middle school girls, but was the only entry. However her performance was pretty good, beating 14 of the boys and the two other girls. TS's Alex Grant was 1st grade 9/10, Brenna Pauly a few seconds behind in second. As mainly road riders, mtb racing is a new challenge for Alex and Brenna. Both spent 21/2 hours Sunday learning to ride Night Shift, with multiple bails and tries at every challenge.

Big thank you to Scott Mitchell of Trek ProCity and colleague Aaron who provided numbers and timing and suggested the course.
Anyone even vaguely interested should bring their kids. Most schools provide permission fairly easily if they know the parents and you have a criminal record check. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Riders like Phillipe and Logan show how the top end do this, yet there are complete beginners riding very basic bikes. It's a good way to dip your toe into racing.
Next race is Tuesday, a short track cross country. It's only 200 m from the Hartland parking lot so you can easily walk to watch. 4:30 start.
