The 2011 school cycling league starts Tuesday with Skilzjam, a judged skills competition at 5:00, at Hartland. The riders start in groups by age, like a golf shotgun start, and try various challenges at 6 stations, all not far from the parking area. Stations include a steep slow speed descent, a log crossing, rocky climb, gravel climb, switchbacks, and a skinny.
Other races include a Super D, Short track xc, city champs xc, cyclocross, and three closed course road events. Races are Tuesdays at 5, except for two of the road events, Bastion, and Windsor park on Sundays.
Riders must register through their school. Details are here: http://www.sd61.bc.ca/athleticassoc/spo ... 20page.htm
Interested parents should contact their child's school athletic director, usually identified on the school website. Depending on the school, a parent sponsor may be approved by the principal, or a teacher sponsor may be available. Entry is free, and no license is required. Riders can join at any point in the season.
(Thought I'd posted this here before, but can't find it now. Apologies if I missed it .)
