Barry's Roubaix April 10th

Alright. First race team "target" race of the season is almost here.

Who's going to do the Hell North of the Fraser? This one is an 8:30 AM start in pitt meadows so it's an overnighter. Everyone should consider this one. A great character building spring classic. Let's get a good group going over, and the race team can provide some funding to help share the travel/group accomodation costs.
I think I can bring my car over, but need to confirm. I have space on my roof rack for a couple more bike racks if anyone has some they can loan me.

The cat 3/4 race is 8 x 10km laps, with 4k/lap on gravel road along the pitt meadows dyke. I've ordered some conti ultra race 25's to do this race, but am planning on doing it on my otherwise regular bike. If it's raining (and we should really all hope for rain), it'll be muddy.

There's also a 4 lap novice race.

...in the spirit of the classic Paris Roubaix it will contain more gravel, and an additional series of corners on the back side of the course.
Wow. That's great.
 I can't fit anything above 23c into my rear triangle and am not up to repairing my wheels. Josh is right: fatter tires keep you in the race, although I recommend tubulars if you can beg, steal, borrow 'em.

This is a great course for Josh, Peter, and Adam. The first guys through the dyke gate lap 1 are usually in the points at the finish, It's that selective a course, especially if you lay it down at the gun for the first 20k. I think I still have gravel bits in my thigh from sliding out of the race 10 years ago.

Somebody in this club must have a cross bike you could borrow, Ryan, to put some 25s or 28s on.
Anybody out there willing to donate their ride to Ryan?

Liam's 'cross bike is a large, open pro wheels, 175mm cranks. Not particularly light, but it's a flat course right? Extra stems around to set up to fit you.

I don't want to commit to it yet, as I might not be able to get it together in time.....

My plan is to build up a new bike this week for barry's roubaix based around a frame I just got powder coated. Right now, my plan B is to use my cross (winter) bike.
If I get the new bike together in time, you'd be welcome to borrow my cross bike as well, Ryan. It's a cypress with aksium race wheels on it. I'll know by later this week.

I know exactly which bike you're refering to Josh. Thanks for keeping me in mind. So, you're definitely going over? The race starts at 8:30. There appears to be no 6am ferry. Ideas? :!: Note to everyone: there is no race day reg. Deadline is 4pm Saturday April 9th.

I am definitely going.
To the best of my knowledge, Sylvan and Peter are in too.

There's no way to get there in time day of, so I was hoping to get some shared accommodation somewhere close to the race.

Also, there is early bird registration that ends tomorrow night (31st). Save yourself $5.

We always stayed at the Ramada in Pitt Meadows for the horrific Haney to Harrison Relay (RIP). It's really close, but a bit of a dive. Accent Inns Burnaby would be fine with me. It's obviously a MUCH nicer place, a bit of a drive but not excessive, and wouldn't be bad at all at 7 am on a Sunday. I'd skip Hwy 1 construction and go the more relaxed Barnet Hwy route. Probably barely over half an hour drive: Google map route. And there's a Denny's on the way in Coquitlam for a wholesome pre-race breakfast.

Hey Sylvan - what happened to the H2H? I ran it 4 times and had a lot of fun.

2010 was the last year. There will be a new relay in Whistler in 2011. Same weekend. http://bcathletics.org/H2H/

I saw that, but was wondering why, after more than 30 years, it was changed. There was still a couple of legs I hadn't run that I wanted to.

Too difficult to get approvals - highways officialdom uncooperative.

Last year I didn't find the course as rough as some people on the forum are expecting. I may have used michelin pro race 3s or training tires. (Can't remember) There is a gravel section but it's definitely not the same as cobbles. It would be hard to say that there is more or less of a risk of crashing than in a crit.
