Beet-flavoured Gatorade?

Crazy as it sounds several studies have now suggested drinking beet juice for 3-7 days before an event improves time to exhaustion by 15%. Nitrates (found in lettuce, spinach and beets) are thought to be the active ingredient. The downside is that long-term use of nitrates in diet may be carcinogenic so you wouldn't want to make this a daily habit.

Alan- maybe you could Big Pharma on this?

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks, Chris. But I think I'll stick to my preferred source of nitrates:

And here I thought the sole benefit of a preservative-rich, sausage diet was the extension of my shelf life.
