Can we get Mistress Lisa on the line for an early YM/YWCA spin class? The forecast is pretty grim....

I emailed Lisa and she suggested the Y may not be an ideal location for varying reasons and I am inclined to agree. So my alternative suggestion for a contingency snow plan is this:

If someone has a large basement, garage, or alternate space (either an 'in' with the manager of that space or a very understanding partner), we could just plan to set up our own spin space. My understanding is that this has already been happening to a lesser degree within TS but maybe someone can clarify how that has worked .

I can bring a good fan and most of us have some form of resistance trainer at home. All else we need are bikes towels and maybe mats. Those of us with AWD or good snow tires can pick up someone not so well equipped and bring them to the location we choose.

Your thoughts?

Ryan

crystal pool has quite a few spin bikes available and no classes going on in the early mornings. There's some keiser m3's with power meters up on the mezzanine above the pool, and a bunch of older bikes down in the circuit area below, by the front desk. We did that a couple times earlier this year. Not all the bikes are together, but there are groups of them, so it's still somewhat social. There's also discovery coffee right nearby for coffee afterwards.

Esquimalt Rec center has about 10 brand new Keiser M3's (with power meters) that are in the corner of their brand-new gym. I've rarely seen them in use. They are nicely setup for a spin class if someone wants to show up and bark orders at the rest.

I can inquire about this (I know a few people that work there) if any interest is shown.

Were you thinking mornings? Esquimalt Recreation Center's hours are Sunday through Saturday, 5:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

I see no reason to vary from the current 6:00 am schedule. Cost might be the only hurdle to the number of sessions. Quentin, ERC sounds great and I would appreciate anything you can find out about availability. We can wait to see whether the forecast pans out but at worst it's expected to make things difficult (up to 10cms of snow last I read) for 5 - 7 days; in that case drop in fees don't represent too much of a cash layout for the relative benefit of keeping the routine.

Esquimalt Rec Centre is a great little facility. Drop-in fee is $5.50 if I'm not mistaken.

I went to Esquimalt Rec this morning at 6am for a spin. Those Keiser machines are pretty cool with a wattage and cadence display. If the weather is bad on Friday I will most likely go again.

Saturday morning looks to be icy as well. Any interest in a 6 am group outing to ERC? Stéphane, how was the workout/instructor/music?

Hi Ryan,

I didn't go to a class. I just did some solo steady spinning for 40 mins or so with some 1 min. max-outs every 5 mins or so. I am going again tomorrow at 6am if anyone is interested.

Stephane: was it busy at that time of the morning?

...or we could just build one of these in someone's garage!

Went to the ERC spin class this morning. It was really good, but there were only 3 bikes available after the class regulars took their bikes.
