...I would do everything the same and I would just admit it, afterwards.
That's about as telling a remark as you'll ever find about the reality of the decade in which he rode. I suspect many of us might have done the same in that position. Maybe. It makes it harder to moralize. I don't like what he's saying but it was his reality. The "trappings of fame" as Kimmage calls them, are that powerful an impetus.

The nyvelocity site appears to be having problems.

“It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of shit. And it can’t be fixed.”
I think this is the most telling quote. I think it is fixable though. Stupid and clumsy are more the operative words with UCI anti-doping than brilliant conspiracy. The UCI 'cash payments' system is also not so well hidden that we haven't learned of it.

Still, wouldn't hurt to move the UCI from Switzerland with it's 'privacy' laws http://www.marketwatch.com/story/fifa-t ... 2010-11-15 , to say France. I'm sure L'Equipe could lend them some space? :)

Those of us that buy licenses and memberships in Cycling BC and CCA need to contact the elected folks let them know we want it fixed. The only place anti-doping is mentioned on Cycling BC's website, is on the license application. No other policy or program, or position with respect to it's affiliation to CCA and UCI.

Great, great article about a French rider named Bassons who clashed with Armstrong over doping early in his career. Real insight I think, and a clue to the solutions.

Good one. My boss at the CCA got a few letters like that from Hein in the late 80's when I wrote an article for Pedal about loopholes in the doping rules. He's a charmer.
