Stolen bike details

:(

Hey everyone,

I see that Josh just posted something to this effect (thank you Josh, that's very kind), but someone rode away with my beloved bike last night. This is my main means of transportation so it's kind of a drag. Whoever did it also went through my landlord's car.

Anyway, just in case you ever see this bike somewhere, here are some identifying features:

Giant FCR-3 Commuter Bike
  • Charcoal/black/blue colour scheme
    Shifters are scratched and chipped
Kelowna Cyclepath sticker on the downtube close to the bottom bracket
Shimano SPD pedals showing some rust (different from what is shown in photo)
Full fenders with rubber mudflaps, home-made plastic mudflap on the back
    Pannier rack
Scuffing on the back of the seat
Reward offered – Please call Shawn at 250-384-8214 (home) or 250-360-7693 (cell)

Really sorry to hear, Shawn. :( And sorry I can't help out with any spare parts or a replacement bike. Actually, we do have a couple of cast-iron mountain bikes in our basement in various states of repair. Let me know if you're desperate -- they're still transportation.

Must have been how you sexed it up with those bricks; they just couldn't resist.

Bummer Shawn.

Try the pawn shops periodically. We got Liam's bike back from the pawn shop on Quadra across from the police station 6 months after it was stolen. Be sure to report the theft so when you find it, the police will support you. They gave ours to us while I stood in the shop with the bike and my cell phone.

Hey Shawn,

That sucks. There should be a special place in hell for people who rip off a guys bike.

I have a 21 inch rocky mountain blizzard (93) with slicks you are welcome to borrow - its a little small for me and I bet you could fit it with the seat down. Its sitting in my garage with a kids seat on the back, which I could easily take off or you could strap my youngest in the back on Wed mornings to give yourself a real workout.

I vote for this. Can you get him or her to give Shawn a wedgie or something too?

Not sure you'll get much competent help from the police. Last year my Cannondale commuting bike was stolen, and I reported it to Victoria's finest. About four months later I was cycling by Kilshaws (the auctioneers on Fort near Cook) and thought I'd drop in for a look-see and had mucho surprise when I saw my beloved Cannondale there on the block. Luckily I caught it before the auction started and called the cops to say "Whassup here?" Seems like the cops had donated my bike to Kilshaws before they could check their own computer system to see if it had been reported as stolen. When you're busy fighting crime it's easy to let the little things slip. I complained but wonder if they are still donating recovered stolen bikes to be auctioned off, without checking to see if they've been reported by someone. Suffice to say, don't be surprised if you find your brick-transporter in Kilshaws. (apologies to any Tripleshotter cops, I don't mean you in my slagging)

Shawn: I'll keep an eye on the weekly auction and if it shows up, I'll bid on it. In the meantime, I've got another decent but old Cannondale mountainbike that I never ride, a rack and some bricks you can borrow until you get your bike back.

That sucks.

I've got an 18" (steel) norco sasquatch that's commuter ready (7 speed grip shift, v-brakes, slicks and fenders). I don't use it, so you're welcome to it if you need something. There's no rack though, so you'd have to figure out some other way to fasten the brick......

(edit: has spd's as well)

Thank you all for your kind words and offers of support. I'm touched, really.

The snow means I'll be on the bus for the rest of the week, but I will follow up with some of you when it warms up a bit and I get things sorted out. In the meantime, thank you again.

Sidenote: I knew the bricks were going to come back to haunt me... :?

I also have a Specialized Sirius or a Norco that you are welcome to. Both in very good shape (54cm ish). Even a set of pannier bags to go with the bike. Let me know. (I upgraded to a TREK Cyclocross to commute with thus the older bikes in the garage).
