Bet this has been asked before, so Roland, be nice.....
Quite the array of lights this morning. I have been using a small light to "be seen", but now wish to obtain a lighting system "to see". Can anyone offer advice on a good system that won't break the bank? Or, is it a case of good money after bad (lights), best get the best, and pay for it? Thanks all.

Dinna worry, Barry. If Roland ever gets all Don Knotts on you, just toss him a banana.

Re: Bike light systems
Hey Barry,
I recently went shopping for lights too. I used a small 1 watt light last year and it can be a little sketchy if you plan on riding all winter. I was originally going to buy a 150 lumen USB rechargeable nighthawk from Simon over at Cycles West for about $140- he's always treated me well and has good prices and this beat out the three other shops I had checked out. Then Brad was going to sell an old Halogen light for $15 but there was something wrong with the system.
I was down at MEC that same day and they had a 150 lumen cygolite for $69 and a 200 lumen for $79. USB rechargeable and single unit - ie no battery pack. Unadvertised special that you had to order from the warehouse, they will give you the product number at the store. I don't think you will beat that price....

I almost ordered a magicshine light - advertised for under $100 with a whopping report of 900 lumen light production:

Rumour has it they actually max out at 350lumen which is probably overkill for a group ride.

And more illuminating light chatter here:

Geoff: I now recall you admitting you had 1,500 lumens at your disposal. When you pulled into the parking lot this morning I thought the aliens had finally come back for me.
