Beacon Hill laps

Hey everyone,

I'd like to see what other people think about how we should conduct ourselves on the Beacon Hill laps at the end of our Tuesday and Friday rides.

What I saw this morning was a fair amount of chaos, poor cycling etiquette and a really close call between a cyclist and a pedestrian. Admittedly, the darkness was creeping in around the edges of my vision by the time we got to Beacon Hill so my perspective might not be that reliable.

In my opinion, it is not cool when dropped or lapped riders hop back on with the lead riders or try to get back in the paceline. It's not about excluding people from the thrill of the sprint; rather, it's about keeping everyone safe. I don't think anyone here wants to hit the deck or another rider going 40+ km/h.

I would ask that if you hear the lead pack of riders coming up beside you, please stay as far as possible to the right of the road and let them pass. If you're doing laps solo there's a very good chance that people will be coming up behind you and its nerve-wracking having people in the middle of the road. It's happened a few times now so I felt compelled to speak up so we could develop a common understanding.

Thanks for listening,

Shawn
