Munns Road Safety

I got stopped by a TC reporter (Ian Shelton) this afternoon on Munns Rd. He had heard unconfirmed reports of a cycling fatality earlier today and was interviewing cyclists regarding the safety of that stretch of road. First time I've been out there is quite a while, so don't have a lot of experience to draw on (although I did get buzzed by a minivan about 2 minutes prior to stopping).
Anyone hear anything about this?

I've been out on small group rides and have been buzzed by an impatient driver. The cars, likely locals very used to the road tend to speed a lot on that road. I hope the fatality is not true.

I rode Munns Wednesday after the hill workout, and it is awesome! Millstream Lake Road after Munns (if you are heading toward Durance) is sweet too! Both are very narrow, winding and hilly. The fast descents are thrilling, but the ability to see oncoming cars or driveways is low. I only saw two vehicles and they both were respectful, but I can imagine a fast/large vehicle would be very scary on that road.

I think Josh had an incident on Millstream Lake road where he had a choice between hitting an oncoming truck or an on coming donkey.
I find Millstream Lake worse for traffic than Munns, due to the number of blind corners.

The story on the am news on cbc radio, heard through the waking -up fog, was the guy was trying to get to hospital for a pre-existing ailment and crashed trying to get there.
I like both roads. You have to pay attention, take the right line, and be prepared to brake hard. Not a place to go faster than your skills. Downhills into blind corners mean any cyclist can get into trouble. Never had a local hassle me.

Interesting. Munns-Durrance is a favourite of mine. I agree traffic is worse on Millstream. More issues with motor bikes than cars. Have been seriously pushed to the side by a motor driven peleton (often with a cell phone pilot) racing through highlands. Watch out! In addition to lister's wisdom I add :ride only as fast as you can see ahead. Too many blind corners. Boy would it be fun with the road closed

It was a choice between an oncoming truck and two donkeys being led up the (wrong) side of the road as we came around a blind corner. we basically came around there and the whole road was full. Not pretty.
The guy in the truck saw everything unfolding first, and deserves full credit for stopping early enough preventing me and my buddy Chris from being hood ornaments. Both of us skidded to a stop JUST short of going over a very steep, very high embankment.
Regardless, Munns-Durrance also one of my favorite rides on the penninsula, and one of my weekly staples. A closed road would be awesome on millstream lake.
