Protecting your 'bars

See overhead angle later in the clip. It's a good example of protecting your bars as Renshaw moves a little too aggressively to block Farrar in the last metres. Farrar places his hand on Renshaw's hip to keep some room. Renshaw was relegated anyway, but Farrar has all his skin, if not the win.

I do not advocate for this kind of aggresiveness and switching lines, at all. But it does happen by accident even on club rides. The head, shoulder and hand on hip are much better alternatives than having your bars hit (that's your steering) and going down. Just last night, I felt someone put a hand on my hip in last night's Caleb, but no words, so I'm pretty sure it was just a 'hey, I'm here' and not my error. (Let me know if I have that wrong though!)
