Wed July 14 Caleb Pike

Adam won, Alec second, me third, after catching the A's during our sprint. A bit hairy; I annoyed Eric from Pro City by going left in the sprint to get around the back of the A's. I think he's cool with it now.
Paul, Rita and Bow rode the B/C ride. I'm feeling a bit foolish for dragging the field around on what I now realize was the neutralized lap and making it too hard for Rita. Sorry Rita! I owe you domestique duty for the next Caleb.
I found it slow and negative, with only Rhonda (sp?) and Hugh willing to have a real go off the front. One woman from Aviawest rode like she was blocking for an imaginary teammate up the road. Weird because we couldn't even get a paceline going without her popping back into the line, then softpedalling. Had a fun two laps or so off the front with Rhonda, and she's keen to try again. Maybe we should team up with IRC and do joint attacks until someone gets away?
Hugh got in the points, 6th I think, after a full lap or more off the front alone.
Adam played Cavendish and even convinced an Oak Bay rider to be his Mark Renshow and won convincingly.

Nice work out there. Rhonda is spelled correctly - usually it's her last name that gets messed up. Sorry I couldn't make it. We'd have lit it up. I knew Blondie was itchin' to have a go at it. We'd talked some strategy on our Friday long ride. One more chance at Caleb in two weeks...

an overview of my race:

Tough night for me, first my kids didn't show up to hurl insults at me on every lap to help keep my motivational level up. Then, just 30 seconds before we start I look down and see that my rear derailer cable is broken and my night was done before we even got started. I'm on holidays for the week of the Windsor crit and the next Caleb so my race season is done.
That stated, great to see Paul win the C's, Adam win the B's and have guys like Ian and Hugh have great showings. Great work out there!

That was fun...the goal tonight was to not get dropped - done and it looks like I was in the points to boot.
Thanks Lister for coming up and telling me to stop pedalling after my little flier, your timing was perfect unlike the timing of my decision to take a drink just as the speed was picking up at the top of the down the hill section. Sorry for the scare.
I have to pay closer attention to the number of laps remaining the bell lap seem to come sooner than expected and I did not have a plan so I improvised. The last lap was a little faster and I was near the front for the sprint but unfortunately my legs did not seem to care...There was a ton of action in the sprint and I had an excellent view of it all. We were probably no where near them but it look as though we were going to ride into the back of the A pack. Lister working his magic in traffic and Alec throwing his bike sideways on the road in front of me made for a great show.
All good fun.. congratulation all on a great race.
Hugh

Great ride everyone else! But here's what I have to say about my ride:

Why I think TS ROCKS:
1. Have you seen the photos? I count no less than 4 Moose salutes!
2. Turn out - by far the best represented club in all 3 races (A,B, C) is TSC.
3. Eeyore is everywhere
4. We had fans on the road
5. I heard tons of encouragement from the side of the road AND from other TS racers!
6. Riding out Gavin and Al slowed up when they saw I was dropped so we could all stay as a TS Group
7. Riding home when we realized Jen had dissappeared we all stopped until we found her.
There are loads of other reasons but when I look at this list I see a club that is out to have fun and support each other and I think that is pretty friking cool.
Peter
p.s. plus lets face it a sweep of the Podium in the B race PLUS Jen defending her 2nd overall is pretty darn spectacular as well.

What happened to Paul on the way home?

Did the Oak Bay rider do the same as Renshow did today?

Seems rather silly to me, but hey, what do I know about bunch sprints?

Ditto to Gav's post. I felt awful, but managed to hang with the pack until the last corner. Kudos to rest of the gang for a strong showing.
On a related note: The C results show Paul and Bow on Tripleshot-Aviawest. Scandalous!
Edit: Results have been updated.

B race was a bit different this week, slightly slower pace with a couple of riders on the front willing to counter moves but not launch any. With my knee acting up all week I was happy with a less intense central portion of the race, but huge kudos to Lister and Hugh for having goes off the front to make the race interesting. Fortunately for the less daring in the group, all such attacks were drawn in by a combination of an Oak Bay cycle guy and a girl from Aviawest, meaning as we started the 12th lap everybody was together.
That last lap felt really nervous, everybody looking at each other untill after the last corner, when the pace jumped up going down the hill. I got in right behind Adam, who was in the process of dictating lead-out tactics to the poor Oak Bay guy (he must have been pretty convincing). Stayed tucked in behind Adam for the final sprint, but my race instincts failed me as I tried to go inside round the A's (with the sprint happening so quick I wasn't sure on the legality of going outside the cones), a big mistake as the group closed down to the right and I had to pop into a lighter gear and swing outside again, probably leading to the cool sideways wheel action Hugh saw. Still managed to get round the A's and was excited enough to try a moose salute on the line despite never having practiced riding with no hands on the handlebars before (I'm new to this remember!!). Probably not the smartest move but no harm done, all in all another awesome race!

Thanks for wondering about me Roland re: ride home. Someone else stopped by the gas station near log house pub so I went in for my post race treat: a cold coca cola! But then a short time later I" hooked up" with Rhonda ,Simon and another blonde Russ Hays lady,2 young woman that placed well in A or B group and we had a pleasant slow ride home. RE Race.. going in the C section was a very last minute switch to work with Bow[her first Caleb] After the start I didn' t see her ,but after 2 laps with the B's I ended up working with Rita for 4 laps which was great. Thanks. Bow finished about 30 seconds after me. One of TS young stars! Too bad there wasn' t a category for 50 plus!! Was I the oldest [youngest at heart] at the race at 57? It was a great feeling to be at the race wearing the club colors [borrowed from Bill E.] and for all the support at a fairly elite event. I describe bike races to running friends as "there"s no joggers or walkers" I'm in for Windsor Park> Paul Christopher.
