A long Saturday ride for me this Saturday was 270km. I did the 1st annual Victoria Gran Fondo in about 10:45 riding time. 11:50 with stops, food and aid stations[including 2 with meals!] The Sooke, Renfrew, Cowichan Lake, Shawnigan, Malahat is quite a classic route and I am sure the event will grow...There was also a 170 km. About 40 people total ....all on road bikes, mostly semi-serious.270km times were about 9 hours to 13 hours ,unofficial. I felt I could have gone further, which I guess means I paced and ate well. Oh my God does this mean I am Randoneur material !?? I think I will stick to 30 to 120 km racing for now. Whistler G.F. with 4000 will be quite different. There are some great team prizes and I believe a number of 3shoters are in. Paul C.
