For the 3T docs in the audience - MRI question

A question for the Tripleshot docs (3T evolved from a group once known as the Spin Doctors, did it not? I digress) -
As I work through the slow process of knee rehab, and encounter recurrent aggravation (typically 48-72 hours after mild exercise) that leads me to believe there may be some sort of cartilage damage that doesn't show up on x-ray, the #1 thing I want is good reliable diagnostic info. That means an MRI, and I now have one booked for April 2011 (welcome to Canada).
So before I trundle off to Washington state - where 2 knee MRIs can be had for significantly less than the price of one local scan at a private clinic here - I thought I would ask: do any of you know a way to get a publicly-funded MRI in less than a year?
