I'll probably show for at least the first stretch, maybe till we can't ride any further near quimper, and the hike a bike starts...Good plan is a flexible plan...

I love that, after 85k and untold hours in the saddle, the route ends with technical Thetis singletrack. What could possibly go wrong? :D

With travel plans reworking themselves, I may be able to come out for at least part of this ride. Don't wait for me, though. I know where/when to show up if it works out. Oh, and I'll have the requisite shareable item (plus vessel) in tow.

Sounds like you'll just be waiting with a camera at thetis to record the carnage for the next christmas party Claire.

The route, company, and frothed decaf are extremely enticing, but if it's too crazy out tomorrow morning I might not make the startline.

If I don't show, enjoy yourselves, Bro's and Gro's, but be careful.

Where do you see that forecast Dave? I see 3 degrees, which I think I can handle. -8 and I'm out too!

The 'feels like' temp shows -8 out Sooke way mid morning. The Weather Network hourly. Probably due to the high northerly winds. I'm going to see what it's like for wind in the am and make a call then. 7:30 at the SB if I'm in.

The weather is definitely on the iffy side. I'll still be at Cookbucks at 7 with gear for the full ride, but with flexibility in mind.

it would be a shame to have to hide out at a brewery in Sooke...

Figbug site has the city blanketed in zeros and the gale is still blowing so I'll bow out. Stay safe, kids, if still going!

The wind is ridiculous. Given the length of the ride and temperatures I think it is best to cancel this ride. Major bummer! But it is not safe. Sorry for calling this so late.

I've heard some brave souls are still heading out though. If you go to Cookbucks at 7:00 you will probably find someone.

For me, I will head back to bed and consider some sort of ride if the weather looks better. I'll keep an eye on the forum and post an update if warranted.

This would-be epic ride needs to be rescheduled. Especially with the loss of Ride For Water and undoubtedly other gravel events. All the more reason to schedule lots of big rides over the coming months.

Does April 26th work for a second attempt?

There are (very tentative) plans to pull together a TS community fundraiser gravel ride on April 26.

Such plans should gel in the next few days, or week tops. But until they do, can we hold off on that date? :)

No problem Rolf. Next weekend (March 22nd?) might work for this ride too.

It was cold, It was windy, there were at least 3 large trees down across the goose and the trail up Quimper, lot's of debris but totally rideable. I skipped the summit due to frozen fingers. The "Charters" trail down to the fish hatchery on the sooke river was a great way down though! Hands came back to life on that....Next time...When it's plus 10 or so?
