Lots of reviews on the mec site. i see they come in 35 mm too for when cross gets into the winter Olympics and they have to race on ice and snow. ;)

Seriously though, 35mm would fit under the same fenders my 'cross tires do. Hmm, have to watch out for a sale on those.

Lister, that "sigh" of resignation you thought you heard was me snoring at 6:00 this morning as you braver folk hit the Ring. I'll try to do better next week. ;)

Great session today. Thanks Lister! It seems to me that TTTing is all about smoothness, cohesion and measured effort. I can definitely improve these aspects of my riding, but all in all I think we did a pretty good job today. To all you winterphobes: it was a fine morning for riding! The roads were ice-free and there was barely any traffic. Just layer up good and you'll be fine.

A little bit late for me to be adding this, but for anyone curious about the ride, just thought I would add my perspective.

I was out on January 30th with the B2 group (though Steve Young lent us some huge pulls and speed just to ride with me - thanks Steve!). I found this to be really good intensity training, and way more fun than I thought! I think it might be my fave TS ride.

Looking at my efforts on Strava, I was pushing anaerobic but hopefully as I gain some fitness it won't be such an effort and I can get dialled in.

Appreciated the pointers from Lister, and meeting some new faces! Thanks to those who started this and those who show up - I hope it continues!

Cheers,
Paul

Who's up for surfing the anaerobic threshold? Trip the lactate fantastic?

Be there for the best training and the best coffee. Ring road just east of Henderson 6 sharp for Ttt intervals, pure vanilla for coffee. :)

here's my strava info for the ride: http://www.strava.com/activities/114695760
last week: http://www.strava.com/activities/113029801
http://www.strava.com/activities/113027072
although there doesn't seem to be a way to post more info, it just gives a brief overview of the ride, which isn't so good as I didn't break it up into sets, and it includes our meandering trip to coffee...
If anyone knows a better way to do this on strava, please let me know :)

The easiest way to do it is to hit the "lap" button on the Garmin at the beginning and end of each workbout. You can have Strava break out the laps for you.

The improved weather brought more out this morning: 11 riders made up three teams. We upped the intervals from 2 x 5 laps to 3 x 4 laps. We'll probably do that for a couple weeks and up it again to 3 x 5 laps. Some good chases, catches, and passes for motivation too.

Congrats to Mike, Christian, Steve, Paula, Martin, Eric, Marcus, Alan, Dave, and Jay for working each other over in the nicest possible way. :)

Eric, Jay, Alan, Mike and Steve probably going the best. I think we'll go for a and b teams next week so riders are compatible.

Thanks Eric and Steve, but I should point out that each team, on each day, has contributed as much or more to the experience by sharing what's working and what's not with their team mates. Lots of chatter after each rep about how to make it better. As teams emerge for each speed, and we chase more during each interval, that should get even better. I'm thinking as we figure out the handicap gaps, we'll have some fun battles for ttt Thursday morning world domination. :)

We could use some A riders to help Jay ride at his ability. And save the rest of our legs from misery.

Yes, thanks Lister.

I don't know what it was like for the rest of you, but this was such a head game for me. The first 4 laps I was thinking "what the &@#$ have I got myself into (again). How can I slink out of here with no one noticing or with my head still held high." And when I asked the rest of you if you had the burning throat sensation and none of you did I thought "OMG this is going to be a long morning". Then during the next round of 4, I started to think that I might be able to survive if I just do super super short pulls or hey, not pull at all. And by the last set of 4 I actually started to feel okay and was enjoying myself.

I can only hope it keeps getting easier for my mind, body soul. But regardless, I think I'm hooked.
And I agree with being with people of comparable abilities. I think that is best for all!!

I think we should re-name these sessions, team pursuit sessions, in recognition of our women's national team pursuit team. (Second to Brits by a second at the world championships last week.)

The parallels to us are considerable:
I heard they were hoping to be within 4 seconds of the Brits this year but are already within a second. (A group that has exceeded expectations.)
Are contributing members of our community: Brown advocating for youth categories at cross nationals, Brown and Roorda coaching at the Christmas youth track camp, Carlton (sidelined by flu last week but still a member of the team) supporting the local track community, appearing at the oak bay bike festival to lead kids on a community ride, etc. (Like we offer women's clinics, elementary school bike clubs, local races, school league, beginner groups in rides, etc)
It's a team effort. (Like group rides that respect the group)

And last but not least; it's a pursuit.

Handicap showdown Thursday am anyone?

Interesting stats, Hugh. I thought only hummingbirds could pull off a heart rate of 246 bpm - just your typical B pace, I guess...

I think the Thursday ride may yet become Tripleshot's most popular ride of the week. One can ride as hard as you can and feel like you're getting thrashed by a bunch of rabid A's without getting dropped and having a lonely ride.
I'd be there tomorrow but, alas, I'm in Ottawa at the moment so will have to go skating on the Rideau canal instead. Sorry me....
