Big Lop Ride Update

1. Change of START location. The ride will now start at Uptown Starbucks due to the Alpha Starbucks being renovated.

2. The route - please see https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14942535

3. Route details:

1. Galloping Goose to Ware Road then to Sooke Road.
2. Sooke Road/West Coast road to Port Renfrew with stops in Sooke-Jordan River-Port Renfrew.
3. Port Renfrew to Lake Cowichan via the Pacific Highway.
4. Stop in Lake Cowichan and the then take the Old Cowichan Highway to Duncan.
5. We will probably have a brief stop in Duncan just before the bridge and the turn on to Allenby.
6. We will then join the Island Highway and ride to Mill Bay stopping in the Mill Bay Plaza (Thriftys) to buy ferry tickets.
7. Mill Bay to the MB ferry and then back to Uptown via Wallace-West Saanich-Interurban--GG (Sunday route).
8. Marcus and Nancy will again provide food (chilli - I think) and drink at the stops (Sooke-Jordan River-Lake Cowichan-Duncan),
9. We will have a "sweeper" car (Ford F150 pickup) on route driven by Lyn -Mark C's wife. The "sweeper" will carry water, bars, spare tubes and tyre and a tool kit. However, riders should be self sufficient and carry there own spares (tubes), pump or gas cyclinders etc.
10. If a rider wish to bring along additonal food, drink, clothes, spares to be available at the stops, please put them in a bag/holder and they can be carried in the "sweeper" truck.

Also, wondering if anyone is planning on doing a portion of the ride?

I wish I could go on this ride, but can't due to the imminent replacement of my right hip, (with titanium,no doubt). Last year I did part of that ride and the 'support team' (the small group of us too lazy to do the entire ride) turned around in Sooke and we went for a swim at Matheson Lake, which was absolutely sublime.

I think, Louise, to honour my initiative in suggesting it, you should ask those who want to go 'part way' to stuff their bathing suits into their pockets for the ride home. It's like triathlon training, without the running or the narcissism.

As for Mark's "Sweeper" post the repentant grammarian in me really likes how cute it is that he writes to report that the support truck will have at least one spare "tyre" onboard. Goodie! It's like he's taking spelling lessons from Paul "F**in" Christopher!

Just wanted to let everyone know we will have lots of room for backpacks in the truck, so if you want to bring extra clothes, we will also have coolers and Ice with extra water.

Fozzy, I can lend you a bike. And you not being able to breath should level the playing field.

Fozz,John D. and others.....Last year about 8 people did an out and back to Sooke.
this year 2 or 3 plan to do an out and back to Jordon River.

And we dont like to name names from 2015 but there is the option of having your spouse or best friend pick you up at Pt Renfrew,

So.....join us for a partial BLR. There is always 2017.
Or 3 Hurricanes on August 14.
