I was running late (aiming to start the second set with the groups) and ran into Lister on his way home...
I did one set on my own at UVic then waterfront to work.
And I was fenderless, so I'm not sure anyone would have wanted to be on my wheel :)

It was a shut out. I rode a few laps then decided coffee was, as usual, much more important. I did see Christian coming up the hill on my way home. But he was equally uninspired with no training partners. And seeing his lack of fenders didn't make me want to talk him into it. I'm guessing everyone has neglected their fender bikes and conscientiously decided not to coat others with a July's worth of road oil etc?

Beautiful morning for coffee and muffins on the patio at pure vanilla. Oh yeah, and for ttt intervals, the price of admission. :)

Buying a ticket were: Sig, Peter L, Mike L, Lisa, Mike B (made us 2 kph faster), Dave B, Blair, Quentin, Richard (wicked fast pull in the last rep, R!), Marcus, and Christian. Mixed groups today learning how to accommodate different strengths. And a fun final rep with 6 person teams; surprisingly faster and harder.

Tech tip 1: when finishing a turn, flick your elbow to show you're done while you're still on your line, then move off the front. If you wait to indicate, the next rider may follow, thinking it's a wobble or you're going around debris. And then have to conga line https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Go7M9yjUyU the group back to the straight and narrow. Both leave team mates exposed to the wind who you'd really rather use their energy pulling you around.

Tech tip 2: Don't overlap wheels. Little to be gained closer than 8-12", and collarbones behind to be lost.

Not tech tip: Props to Lisa, who can buy any bike gear she wants, buying Anika's surplus to lend a hand. And you look good in nat team kit, Lisa.

Good riding this AM. Mandy, Marcus, Tyler, Me for the first two. First was fast! Second was a bit slower. Tyler did not even break a sweat while the rest of us panted! Third one with just 3 of us; Tyler headed off to a faster a group! We were motivated! 25 seconds faster than the 2nd! It is a lot fun ripping along at +40 K/Hr right on someone's wheel then your turn on the front to maintain that speed!

Agreed Barton. Several folks switched teams, faster or slower to suit. A big advantage of having four teams out. I rode the last two with peter, sig and Trevor, all of whom were going better than me. 13:05 better on the fastest.

The interesting thing was the extra speed came on flats and descents, not the rises. The climb was comfortable (ok that's a slight exaggeration). Actually the flats and descents were comfortable too... until I had to do my turn. Peter offered lots of draft and I could go all day on his wheel, but barely managed 10-15 seconds pulls once the harsh reality of the wind hit. Props to Peter for being so fast and steady. Trevor and Sig too. Will try to go longer next time. :)

Ttt intervals tomorrow.

Even as my only intensity ride a week, this workout has got me me going for the Sidney tt's. I'm sitting fourth in my age group for the season only 1m20s off my pb from 2 years ago, which was set with a tt bike, while I rode last night on my basic road bike and no aero bars. TTT intervals = free speed.

Well, a little effort required. ;)

See ya at 6.

Anyone up for ttt intervals? Most forecasts are for 50-70% chance of rain. If you come, please have fenders, at least rear. 6 am, henderson and ring road.

Overnight tonight the probability of rain is below 50%, having said that, it is much nicer if everyone has rear fenders at least.
Also, I defer to rule #9 (http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/) "Rule #9// If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period"

That post was for last week. I'm up for this week, though a little the worse for wear from 'cross tonight. Where were you by the way Christian? That Ridley was born for 'cross. :)

Actually this forecast looks pretty darn good. https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=ch ... 20victoria

Maybe the best of the day between 5-8. God is smiling on TTTrs. :)

Who's in for Ttt intervals?

Wanted: riders who raced Wednesday night or otherwise wanna go a bit
slower. Chasing Geoff tonight killed me. :)

Today's ride (oct 9). Just realized I'm booked on an early ferry for Burnaby velodrome and haven't posted here that I can't be at ttt intervals. The regulars know the drill.

For next week, paving work at uvic may force us to reconsider training at uvic. I got the following from John D. What's the consensus? Shall we do the Ttt rides elsewhere or cancel? I have done Ttt intervals between stop signs along the water front route with youth riders. Hillier than ring but doable, maybe even a good progression in Ttt skills.

Ritchie has so suggested maybe postponing Ttt intervals, and replacing with a cyclocross workout. While it's fairly dry, we could start at Pareto and use various fields and parks for cross drills and games. If it's wet and we'd likely do damage with over using one area, we could do a large loop on trails, field perimeters and beaches. This will require better lights than group road rides, preferably a helmet and handlebar light together. Super fun though, narrow technical stuff feels fast in the dark.

Neither are really the same kind of training as Ttt though. Thoughts?
L

"FYI...Ring Road is being re-surfaced between Oct 10-24th, so you might want to cancel (or at least consider re-locating) the next few Thursday TTT sessions.

I have an aversion to mud so x is out for me but I do like riding hard for 3 fifteen minute blocks with other tripleshot members so I would come out to a different TTT location, perhaps Beacon Hill park, 8 laps = 5 laps at UVic.

Hey Lister, Lisa and I and if he can drag himself out of bed Sig are meeting at the petting zoo at 6 tomorrow for laps around Beacon Hill. Anyone else?
