Escape Velocity Spring Series

Post by RyanC »

Some of the hardest races and best early season training I have ever done. It works better traveling in numbers. Who's in?

Well well well, that is very interesting. I'm in for some - can't do Sundays on Mar 6, Mar 20 or Apr 3, but other Sundays and all Saturdays are good. I'm racing B!

I was thinking I'd like to try the A (cat 1,2 and very fit 3s) race, for shits and grins, but then I read this:

and this year Cycling BC Upgrade Points WILL be on offer for A, B, and C Groups only. Top 5 for each category regardless of what Cat level you are (e.g. you're a Cat 4 in the B group and finish 4th overall, first Cat 4 over the line; you get 4th place points)

makes me want to race B (most cat 3s and very fit 4's) and try for some points.
I wonder when the 2011 schedule dates will be announced.....,
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

You're a brave man. Ouch. My experience is that a lot of 'very fit 2s' tend to sandbag the 'B' group. The earliest series races tend to be crash fests. In the past I have waited until the 3rd weekend to join in. Squirrel season is mostly over by then.

My favourites:
The Huntington-Bradner-0 Ave course is really fast and has a surprisingly selective grunt of a hill at the top of 272nd.

Similarly, the Bradner & King course has a 300m climb that knocks about half the field out in the first 1/3 of the race in the 'B' group.

Last year I did Old Yale Criterium and River Road TT in B. In the crit I missed an acceleration with about 5 laps to go and probably finished 1/2 a lap down. I was mid pack in the TT. Josh, I think you'd be strong in B and probably OK in A depending on the course.

The link seems to be to the 2010 series unless I'm missing something.

It is, but it's basically the same every year. The dates will be updated soon.

Sweet: "EV/dEVo reserves the right to pick your race class for you if you're sandbagging or should have trained harder."

Oh, not sweet at all: "No major changes, but the series is designated a Club Race in 2011, so no upgrade points."

Is there enough time to go over morning of? Or do you need to go over the night before?
