The ride today was very beautiful. Nice work by Jon Watkin to leverage social media connections and organize a quality New Year's Day ride, which should probably be an annual tradition. I think total attendance was about 15, with 12 at the start at Bastion Square at 11 am. Ryan C and I sported baby blues. Ryan peeled off with Kim and Joe after Sidney. Some others disappeared around then, too, and it was left with me, organic Dave and Emile, Jon, Scotty and Rob Britton. Ugh. We did Land's End, Dave dropped off at Panorama, then Emile mercifully had a flat and we had a break at the Shell station at Wallace and East Saanich. I briefly had fantasies of re-looping the waterfront, what would have given me bang on 100 miles, but I got way smarter after my last pull on Wallace and went straight home after Interurban. The pain was bad, but there were good sensations, too, so I'm hoping for a net benefit.

Re: Hangover Ride
Interesting that Sylvan could do some other ride after convincing the rest of us he was a heroic Euro of old and getting 5 of us (Alan, Dave S, Paul C, Joihn D and myself) all amped up and out on our bikes at 6am on New Years Day!
Even in his absence (and I confess the sensations did not start out very good at all!) we had a great ride. Paul had to bail a bit early to go run something somewhere (I knew the words but they didnt make any sense to me) but the interpid 4 soldiered on as the hard men of winter we are. Ended up back for coffee at Moka House on Cook St. at 8:30.
All in all a great way to start the year!

Re: Hangover Ride
Let's see Pete.. If you rode with the boys dark and early on New Year's Day (very impressive given the deep freeze), then who did I see the same day, riding out and back along the water around 3 pm at clearly extralegal speeds, looking low and mean on a time trial rig? Some not-so-secret training perhaps?
Re: Hangover Ride
It was me on both occassions. We only managed 2 hours or so in the am so I took the TT bikeout and did a field test in the afternoon. Start @ Shoal Pt Moka flat out to the base of King George (Foul Bay?) and return. 12k then easy spin 10' and repeat.
There is some interesting stuff to be learned from doing 2 x 20' efforts with a 10' break (including what your lunch tastes like after its been in you for a few hours!).
If anyone is interested in joining me I expect to go again tomorrow around 2:30-3:00. If you are interested in having a crack at it yourself post here and we will specify a time to meet etc.
