Hardnosed Saturday Doublefest?

Post by sylvan »

I'm feeling sensations that tell me it's time to start going long on Saturdays. It feels like Doublefest time. I remember a Doublefest route that Peter posted last year, where he finished up the Sufferfest, then headed straight up Hillside to get to Oak Bay Bikes by 9. I'm not super keen on the urban connector and I'd rather do some different roads as opposed to another Interurban sprint route. I'll defer to what the majority want to do, but I was thinking of putting together a 100 km route that would keep me north of urbanity so as to get to Mattick's at about 9:40 to meet the Oak Bay ride there. No chance of missing it if the last 5 km are on the same route in the opposite direction.

Here's a route that works out for distance and adds some roads that I like that the group rides don't usually do, and saves the airport/Saanichton stretch for the second pass with Oak Bay.

The Wednesday Morning Coffee Ride does the full Deep Cove route.

I changed it and it overwrote the previous version. Now it maintains the Wain Rd. route and adds a magnificent sick and twisted component that I like a lot. :twisted: Ya. Thomson. You know you want it.

Now ..here I thought I had become a hard core roadie in 2011 by doing 500km weeks in the summer, rode VNV in 34 c. heat, spent more money on bike stuff than my car, rode about 18,000km[accurate mileage to follow]and own 3 clothing items that start with the word BIB---... but no...harder core tripleshotters exist...Do you guys not party on NY eve?? Have a drink??Sleep in??

If I dont go to PIH NY day 10km at 10am I may see you at Starbucks...could we do the double ride and also make the 10km??? Happy New Year, pc

p.s. there is a 5km running race NY eve and of course we will see you all at the Elk lake polar bear swim. What would Roland do?? cheers Paul

Sylvan;

Given the extended length, what sort of pace are we talking here....Sunday TS pace, or a 100km hammerfest? If the former, then I'm in. If the latter...I will respectfully demur.

Thanks,
John

P.S. We missed you on the Wednesday peninsula ride!

I'd be more than happy with a solid Sunday pace. Anybody with lots of extra piss and vinegar would have ample opportunity to express themselves on the Oak Bay ride portion, like pull the whole of Wallace at 40 km/h after riding 100 miles already. Anybody not doing the double would have 72 km by the time we hit the observatory and if they want to pull lots up to then I'm happy to sit back and let 'em :D

I'm heading out now/soon to do a Friday route to meet up with the hangover ride at Bastion Square downtown at 11:00. The sensations are generally not good but a ride should improve things somewhat, hopefully.
