Tuesday Dec 21 Stats

My stats are a bit skwewy since I stopped and took a mechanical lap after lap 2 of the box to yank off my fender flap, what had come half off and all flapping around. Thanks to Eric for pointing that out.

I must say I thought the ride today was very beautiful. Going with one group was fine even when we swelled to about 18 riders with a few late join-ins. The only potential problem is if fast guys get stuck at the back when the pace picks up for the sprint. Seemed to me like everybody did a great job working their way up safely or holding a steady line if they were being passed, so it was all beautiful.

The mighty Fraser (aka Vinnie Testosterino) was roaring with incredible force today and it was an honour and a pleasure to share the sensations of 6 laps of Beacon Hill, on the rivet, with him and Josh and Adam. The laps were super consistent at 39 km/h (2'29, 2'27, 2'30, 2'29), then Adam and I popped off the back after the Manchild's devastating final pull along Dallas Road. Chris and Josh were probably about 5 seconds faster for the last lap, and Adam and I were about 12 seconds slower (2:41), cooked and coasting. We've been faster around there, but being all dark and winter and windy today, I thought the effort was acceptable.

I thought the A's were pretty accomodating too.

But, Alex was not in the mix for the sprints today, when she normally is, and I'm not sure if it was the weights last night (not super hard ones; just starting) , or the pace. How did other B's feel? A bit steamrollered by the pace, or did you like the challenge? Mike L liked the pace, but Alex was barely holding the wheel, and defintely not working on timing her ability to come around etc., which is what I think of when I think of the sprints (vs a longish aerobic interval clinging to wheels).

And I think we lost Paula well before her normal turn-off pt, though I didn't see it.

I was done like a Swanson's TV dinner  after pulling on Lap 1! Fighting a cold again. Jeremy too. We did a couple laps of the box and then enjoyed a leisurely-paced zenride under the full moon to coffee with only one lap of Beacon Hill, just to pad the odometer a bit.

Interestingly, despite our sprint-expurgation and shortening of the route, we still only rolled into Shoal Pt. around 7:10. The group pulled in pretty soon after. Didn't some of our regular Tuesdays in fall 2009 (with 4 laps and no Beacon Hills) make it in around then, too? There's no doubt the club's overall average speed has climbed.

and in the "quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with" category.... Sylvan fails to mention his own often 3/4 of a lap long monster pulls during the beacon laps.

couple more stupid long winter rides, and he'll be good to go.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
