Message from Jon Watkin about the Victoria Cycling Festival

Post by Josh.E »

I emailed Jon with some questions about the victoria cycling festival. I got this as part of the response from him. I wanted to pass it along, mainly to highlight the call for volunteers.

Hey Josh.

Thanks for your interest in the Victoria Cycling Festival and the Ryder Hesjedal's Tour de Victoria.

We have capped the # of participants to 1500, which will be a realistic target for the 1st year of doing the event. As our intent is to develop and grow the event over the many years to come, there may be an opportunity to leverage for more inkind support from the various municipalities.

On a side note, we are looking for volunteers in various areas, particularly in volunteer coorination, infrastructure, and traffic marshalling. If you or anyone else on the Tripleshot Cycling Club wish to join our team, please have them contact me.

All the best,

Jon Watkin
Director
Victoria International Cycling Festival

That's going to be a tough couple of days for anybody who wants to do all the races and put in a decent effort in the 140. 140 km Saturday AM, 4-mile TT Saturday PM, crit Sunday AM. Ouch ouch ouch.

That TT is going to be very painful. Full effort for 8 - 10 minutes. A little longer than a pursuit on the track.

As for the crit, I'm attacking from the gun. Anybody with me?

I think I'll skip the tour de victoria.

Negative. Replaced by this new Ryder ride Gran Fondo, which will be timed (hopefully better than Whistler) but not a race. You need to do the Renfrew ride on Dec 27 to hit those hills out there.
