TUES DEC 7TH

Post by Josh.E »

Good ride this morning. I woke up to a flat back tire, so I was a little late arriving, but jumped in on the first sprint lap. Not sure exactly what happened on the first sprint, Peter dropped his chain when I attacked early, and then I didn't see anybody again. The second sprint was great, Shawn and I pulled for quite a while, then I tried to gut myself and attack up henderson with the last of the reserves. I pulled around to the back and got on Gavins wheel. Ended up with just enough recovery time to go for the sprint win against Peter, which was fun, as I've been doing early breaks, and haven't tried a sprint finish in a couple months.

The ride around the waterfront ended up being a really hard effort for me. After the group let a gap open up on Peter, Shawn, and Sylvan in uplands, I decided to try to bridge. I chased from the bottom of the first hill in uplands until the marina before I finally caught them. oouuuch!!

Peter, Shawn and I traded some pulls, and then I dropped my chain at the bottom of KGT, just as the headlights of the main group came around the corner.
Another attack at the top of king george and found myself with Peter, Shawn, and Gavin after hollywood. I was feeling really gassed by this point, and took a pull along ross bay. I came around the back and right away Peter took a monster 40km/h pull up clover that had me hanging on for dear life trying to recover on the back.
The six beacon laps kept the pace high, and I ended up in a long drag race with Shawn for the finish. Good times. Good ride.

Anybody have any stats?
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

We all sat up in shock and horror and coasted for awhile - didn't pick it up again 'til Peter had fully regrouped and gunned it himself halfway down the final stretch.

No. You and Shawn were epic. Peter, too. I apologize for my disgraceful non-performance today. I vow to start training properly. And to attempt to mimic Moose's mass minimalization mission. If he can get down to 190 I can get down to 145, being about 3/4 actual size.

I'll post my stats tonight when I get home.

That was an amazing ride! I haven't been out for a while and I've missed it. It's good to hurt first thing in the morning.

Junior report from the B's.

Bow is back after three months away and off the bike, and despite suffering quite a bit, she hung on till coffee. First ride back, but I bet she'll be back up to speed in 3 weeks.

Alex and Brenna had quick reactions to the first accelerations and jumps each sprint. I didn't see it all, but they got flicked a bit in the last corner before the first sprint, but reacted and were quickly back on the wheel, 5 or 6 wheels from the front. They were waiting (I think) for the sprint to go up the left (protected) side, but first Hugh, then Eric went up the right on the windy side and they got boxed in on the worng side. Lesson: even in a cross wind sprint, avoid overlapping the wheel, in case you have to react to the opposite side you're expecting.

In sprint two, Paul C jumped from halfway back and Alex got straight on the wheel and into second place, even moving nicely (and safely) across the front of the bunch to discourage them from responding. But then Paul sat up or died, and Alex got boxed again as the swarm went round on both sides. Lesson: have a plan b in case your leadout croaks early. Options might have been to jump hard as soon as Paul eased, but that might have been too far out. Maybe watch back (under the arms) for the reaction from the group, move out from behind your dying leadout so you don't get stuck, and jump so you can be up to speed to go for a wheel as the chasers come by. Foot note: Paul touched wheels with Alex after she went by him, but didn't overreact and made sure Alex knew it was ok. Thx Paul.

Just before KGT I asked the group leaders if Brenna and I could try a break after king george, and see if we could stay away. We rolled over the top while they were regrouping. We went pretty fast down the hill and through Hollywood. Brenna was right there on the wheel (pretty good considering the 80 pound weight diff, and the dark, narrow space), and doing turns, long enough to help, but short enough to leave energy to get back on: she never left a gap. She warned me to back off a hair on the Clover Pt hill, but came through to do her turn approaching Cook. She had to leave before the sprint, but we were still clear of the chasers at Mile 0 and they tell me they were going pretty hard. Bravo Brenna.

I think I sensed a little burning desire to stay away, she was that good.

Lister,

"(pretty good considering the 80 pound weight diff...)"

80 pounds! Is your Bike made from depleted Uranium :o - just imagine what it would be like to ride a bike that is in the region of 15-20 pounds! On second thought, everyone need to add weight to there Bikes so I have a fair shot at staying with the group. Okay, Okay!

You mean the B's didn't wait and re-group? And we still stayed away? Holy cow.
