Dumpster Dive Super-D

Post by EricS »

Hartland was a mud-fest today. Pouring rain, sun, repeat. A good turn out despite the weather. Not sure if any elite riders broke the 8.5 minute record as it was slippery. Lots of crashes. My son Logan had a good race - no flats, no crashes - and finished in about 12 minutes. I have no idea how anyone could do Jelly Roll, Lumpy Pants, Regional, Who's Yer Daddy, Night Shift, Short Cut and Shock Treatment to the TTA in 8 minutes, 12 minutes, or 20 for that matter. I would be happy with 30 myself. Quite an exciting morning. I was very happy when Logan finished unscathed. I'm sticking to cross-country (and road of course).

Congrats to Logan. We rode Who's your Daddy after, and I had at least 10 dabs on slick rocks and soft mud. Never mind racing it.

Interesting tidbit: the winner rode a stock 4" travel cross country bike. The organizers had recommended 6" travel trail bikes, a heavier, plusher bike. Organizers Scott Mitchell and Kris Jones said the race is about "More rider, less bike".

Edit. The organizers made some mistakes with results, and the guy on the light bike was 7th. Still pretty good though.

Yah, they told him the wrong start time for the beginners race so he went at the end of the intermediates. His name is also in the results under the intermediates with his time of 12:51. He placed 10th in the intermediates (would have been 2nd in beginners) and even beat one expert rider. He is happy as this was his first Super-D.
