Okay, it's no Gran Fondo or Hurricane Ridge, but this weekend I did the toughest ride of my life, climbing Giant's Head peak in Summerland. The 1,880+ foot gain was well worth it, though, as I looked back over vineyards, mountains and Okanagan Lake. A sunny day, dry roads and light traffic made for an overall enjoyable 2 and a half hour jaunt.
I mapped it out at: http://beta.mapmyride.com/routes/detail/23587260/
Here are two pictures I managed to get on my cell phone, shaky hands and all, from the top of the ride. Really doesn't do it justice.
Anyway, it's a challenge we all should take when you come up for some wine tasting and lung-busting climbs...

Very cool. Look at that desert!
Giant's Head has a special place in my heart - when I was about five, my parents took me there. My mom said it was a park that covered the entire mountain, and in my mind park = playground. I was expecting a playground apparatus of epic, mind-blowing proportions, so you can imagine my disappointment when there wasn't even a swing set...
