Pacific Circle Route (Sept. 11)

Post by Chris Watt »

If you're the one of three TS'ers not doing the Whistler Gran Fondo that week-end but still looking to do something long (really long) there's a small group of us doing the new Pacific Circle Route that Saturday.

Route: Victoria > Sooke> Port Renfrew > Lake Cowichan then one of two options-

Mill Bay ferry route- approx. 304 km and 2400 metres vertical
Malahat route- approx 3900 metres and 306 km up and over the Hat.

Kim and Joe have done it a couple of times since the newly paved route opened last year and say it's beautiful. Back-roads to Sooke, a long shot up the winding ocean road to Port Renfrew, up and over the pass through rain forest and lakes to Cowichan then back home, either by ferry or Hat. It would be a long day, starting pre-dawn so we'd be home before dark. There's also a possibility of splitting it in two days with an overnight somewhere around Cowichan and an early start Sunday to be home by noon.

If you're interested let me know!

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris

I may be very interested. I will go sit on my bike seat now and for the next 12 hours to prepare!

Cheers

THREE HUNDRED KAY! Are you doing Metchosin/Rocky Point/East Sooke/Gillespie on the way out? 298 km is my limit so I'm out. I'm actually going to be in Banff on Sept 11 and I'm scouting for a 120 km route with enough climbing to make a semi-legit Gran Fondo shadow ride.

Hey Bill- would be great to have you along putting the hurt on the us (unless I'm missing your irony).

Do the 12 hour practice sit with your pants on though.

(hey, do you think the couple that mooned us Sunday at Beacon Hill as you/I went by at end of N2V were paying homage to your avatar? That'd be a bit weird...)

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Sylan- exact route to Sooke be democratically determined. Just want to be home before dark.

298K your limit? No problem; I'll cover your taxi ride the last 2k.

Cheers,
Chris
