Hurricane Ridge - BC Day, Monday Aug. 2

Post by Rolf »

I'm trying to get some long hills in before the Nanaimo ride, so I'm thinking of heading south to Amerika next Monday: 6:10 ferry over, 12:45 ferry back.

I'd like to actually see the view from up there! And this high pressure system looks like it's going to hold for the week.

I'm happy to solo the day with Moneyshot on Mr. iPod (or at least the climb, as I'm very slow) -- but I'd welcome anyone to join me...

Not sure I can make it on the 2nd, but apparently Pro City Cycle is organizing a big group for the Ridge on August 25th too.

Okay, so who is up for Hurricane Ridge on Monday?

So far it is :

Rolf
Michael
Rolf
?

I know there have been some competing posts about Goldstream/metchosin on Monday but wouldn't a nice international cycling day be more exciting than a ride we can do any old time...

Rolf, just get Josh to ride next to you and sing, just like your own personal moneyshot concert

I tried out my shoulder/elbow strength on a few Mt Tolmie repeats today. All is good. I hope to see you at the ferry Monday a.m.

Unfortunately, the kids that I coach at 9am may not be as enthusiastic about that as I will be!

Damn, would love to see what the view's like (first time up didn't really capture it), but I'm gone on a week long trip back to manitoba that also complies with doctors orders to stay off the bike for a bit (apparently it squishes my disc but I'm not convinced...). See you guys when I get back!

Great, once we sift through all the regrets, it looks like we'll be:

Chris W.
Barry M.
Mark S.
Michael L.
Rolf W.

Anyone else? I can personally vouch for the superlative "7-11 style" nachos and polish smokies on the flagship of the Blackball Ferries fleet. So come for the food... and the thrill of 45 straight minutes of swooping downhill!

Weather's looking great, should be about 18 Celsius on top (if this weird forest fire haze doesn't cool things down):

http://forecast.weather.gov/afm/PointCl ... -123.49816

If you're new to the hill, here are Roland's stats from last year's Canada Day ride to give you an idea of what to expect:

http://tripleshotcycling.servebbs.com/v ... 2228#p2228 [It took me more like 2.75 hours ferry to top last time -- but then I'm no Bananaman!]

Don't forget: passport, rear flasher for the tunnels, and US$5 for the park tollbooth.

I think I am out for tomorrow - If I can make it I will see you on the boat. If not, have a great ride!

Gents- bagged after all day drive from Interior so at this point I'm probably going to sleep in. If I pop awake early and win "mind over mattress" I may still make it- but at this point it's looking wobbly. If I miss it have a great ride.

Cheers,
Chris
