Speedway Racing Happening Tomorrow!
Tomorrow night is the 5th VCL race in this condensed, hastily-wrought 2021 season, and it goes round and round the oval at what is now called the Westshore Motorsports Park (but what most Victorians know as “Western Speedway”, or just “the waterslides”.)
Whatever you call the aging track, it’s a great venue for spectating as you can watch the action all the way round. Just make sure you get into that rush-hour traffic early. On-site registration starts at 5:30; racing at 6:00 (C), 6:30 (B), 7:15 (A).
Bring your licence*, number, and chip, if you have them and some bucks to pitch in for the facility rental. Registration will probably be around $10-20. (Hey, things are coming together as fast as Eric Simonson’s finish! )
*NOTE: Please bring some proof of licensing to all VCL events this year. If you are racing A or B you will need a provincial race licence.
If you’re available to volunteer for some or all of the evening, the estimable John Taylor would love to hear from you: taylorjs@uvic.ca
Thanks to Roland for the screenshots from his strangely gripping race YouTubes from 2019, like this one: https://youtu.be/kRuFfiyna_Q
