I hesitate to place this post on the forum, but since there isn't a lot of activity on-line, and there is a cycling connection to this message, I feel justified in sharing it.
My friend Jessica has started the search for a new home for her guide dog. Nala is a 9 year old golden retriever / lab cross and has reached retirement age. She has been Jessica's guide and companion for 7 years and they have travelled extensively together to swim meets, conferences and triathlons. Nala is a very fit, calm and friendly canine, and loves to be with people young and old. She is obviously very obedient, loves long walks, gets along with other dogs and "isn't too fussed with cats". Jessica would love to see her go to a family or perhaps retired couple here in Victoria that would enjoy and appreciate a wonderful companion dog. She is hoping to bring a new guide dog into her life this summer, so would ideally like to see Nala settled happily with a new family this summer or fall. If you know of anyone that might be interested, and would like to know more about Nala and Jessica, please contact me.

P.S. Here is a link to a recent essay that Jessica wrote for CBC ( there is both a cycling and isolation element! ):

Re: Guide dog looking for a new home
Tentatively, it looks like Nala has found a new home here in Victoria.
