Paralympic Torch Relay
Its this Saturday with various celebrations taking place in both Esquimalt and Victoria on March 6th. If you dont already know there are 3 of our club who are torchbearers. Both Carly and Jen have spots as part of the 24hr torch relay in Vancouver leading into the Opening Ceremonies. I was selected for part of the relay here in Victoria. I am also the first torchbearer for the Victoria Celebrations. That means I get rowed ashore by Dragonboat starting at 11:35am on Saturday. I then take the torch ashore and carefully walk it up the dock in front of the Empress (along the causeway) to the first exchange point. For all those who suggested there would be a high level of entertainment in watching me RUN - I say "hah" and "hah" again.
Peter.

Very cool indeed! My aunt is also carrying the torch tomorrow in honour of my uncle.
My uncle was a ski instructor and coach for the visually impaired and paraplegic ski program at Mt Washington for 20 years, and unfortunately lost his own battle with cancer this year.
I'll be out to support everyone tomorrow for sure - proud to see such a large contingency from our group!

Re: Paralympic Torch Relay
Better late than never? It's been 2 weeks now but I just wanted to post a short note regarding the Paralympic Torch Relay for Carly and I in downtown Vancouver. All the "once in a lifetime" hype finally makes sense now - it was a great experience with a very inspirational group of people. The volunteers also did a fantastic job of organizing everybody and making sure that everybody enjoyed their 300 metres of glory. Carly and I were able to ride the tandem for 600m without incident! I started first (the trickiest part was getting rolling while holding a flaming torch...), and then Carly and I stopped half way to exchange flames, and then continued riding for Carly's section with her carrying her torch on the back. Definitely an experience I'll never forget.

Very cool, guys.
You should bring those on the next rainy ride and stay up front. We'd never get lost -- and feel warm and cheery, to boot.
