Racing A

Post by Plawless »

Josh had a good comment about us racing A this year. Why wouldnt we? Yeah we will get killed by the Cat 1/2 guys but I bet it will pay big dividends in fitness etc by the end of the year.

Second, and what confirmed it as the right thing to do for me, was a comment by Geoff W. this am at coffee that having our fast guys racing in the same race as him is a total disincentive to racing. When we stop and think about it the B race is for newbies (see the photos of a guy racing wearing a camelback?) and sandbaggers (I wont call anyone from other teams out here .... yet!). If we move up what excuse will there be left for Geoff... he will HAVE to race.

Maybe the guys that can finish on the front of our rides should race A and those that arent quite there yet should race B? I also suspect that if a few of us move up and shame the other guys (i.e. those who were working at the front of the B race this past week) then we could have a really good chasing bunch in the A race.

Dont forget I am the weakest of our fast bunch at these races (especially at Newton) how sad if I race A and you dont......

Any other thoughts?

I agree that most of us should be up in A. It's going to hurt, but not as bad as you think. If you look at the top 3 As from last year, Vaughn Hildebrand, Steve Bachop & Craig Logan, while they are definitely strong, I don't think they are a different category of strong. And they guys that are super strong, Tyler Trace, Nic Hamilton, Rob Britton etc don't come out all that often, and they don't attack on lap 1 either.

I think there are half of people in the Top 10 As of last year that are no stronger that Josh, Peter & Bill. Doing well in A means riding smart, riding often, working together and taking opportunities when they present themselves.

missed the rest of the quote: ".at these races (especially at Newton) " At Newton its not unusual to have me lapped by the B's so in A I am going to get slaughtered - but I am going to get faster!..

Wasn't that a year, 20 pounds, 500 Tolmie's and about 8 million km ago? I recall you riding farm team rides instead of wed hill rides about then too.
