Saturday, Nov 2nd - Terra Nova: TSCX Strikes Back! (UPDATED DATE)

Post by schouten »

******** This ride is now Saturday, November 2nd departing Fairbucks at 7:30am ********

Need a longer day in the saddle with some technical riding? Terra Nova is a blue trail accessible off Sooke Road that takes us into Sea to Sea Regional Park Reserve (a.k.a. Harbour View) and out to Sheilds Lake or perhaps even Crabapple Lake. For a point of reference, a Blue trail is similar to Millhouse and Kallie's Korner.

Here is the Strava route:

https://www.strava.com/routes/20931823

It's a 75k out-and-back but I have tried to keep it interesting with diversions so the "commute" portion is not so boring. I would budget 5-6 hours (assuming we don't get hopelessly lost again). Bring sustenance (2 X 🍌, maybe even a 🥪), enough water, a smile, and a dash of patience for what should be considered an expedition class ride.

This ride is not for everyone (must be of sound body and mind - ahem, you know who you are) so I won't be offended if another Sunday ride is posted. Reply if you are interested and feedback on the route is welcome!

I’m in.

And side note: if y’all want me to be part of your weird semi-knobby cult you need to show me how to insert gifs into messages. Not that I even know where to find gifs...

7.30 fair bucks departure?

Recyclistas is Switch Bridge, Ron. c. 15-20 mins from Fairbucks.

Being of unsound mind, I will likely opt for (propose?) something less ambitious on Sunday. Looks fun though!

Having had to last minute bail on the last time this route was attempted I am seriously considering......let's see - 5 hr epic adventure ride or 45 minutes of pain in the mud or sitting at my desk and reducing my accumulated mountain of report writing.....

Bike is currently in the shop, recovering from its last mud adventure.

How helpful is that?....I'm a maybe!

My bad Markus - you were right. Meeting at Fairbucks at 7:30am means we can't pick you up at 7:25am (duh! - Flux Capacitor is busted). See you at 7:50am-ish at the Switch Bridge (thank you Rolf for pointing that out!).

L3 - Don't worry, we won't brag at all about how awesome the ride was. This is just a little ride you can do anytime...

Opting for the 45 minutes of lung-scorching pain on Sunday. Have a great ride!

I'm provisionally "in" for your little adventure O' bearded one.
But remember if you get us lost again, it could turn ugly....

Darn, I should have realized this sooner but I have a conflict on Sunday morning (Richardson Corridor Tour). A big chunk of me wants to skip this and just ride but I think that would be a tad short-sighted.

I can ride this Saturday, Nov 2nd instead or Sunday, Nov 10th. Any preferences?

Saturday works for Rob, Banana Supplier, and I. Markus, can you swing Saturday?

Hi Paul, I would budget 5-6 hrs approx., but be ready for the unexpected. We might encounter treefall and other conditions that slow us down. Some sections of the trail might require a hike but it shouldn't be too bad.

I would recommend not having to catch a flight right afterwards.

We depart 7:30am from Fairbucks with a SB pick-up at 7:50. Return time between 12:30 and 1:30 not including coffee/lunch.

I'm glad you guys realized your ride conflicts with the Victoria Cross on the Rock race, which you will obviously be doing.

I'll skip it this time. Weather looks good for a road ride. I'll wait until next time.
Thanks,
Paul O'Cal.
