A lot of our routes north to Lochside pass through the intersection at Cumberland and Union where an unfortunate motorcyclist lost his life today.
Heading north on Cumberland, we're often clipping along because of the descent from Playfair Park. Union is the first stop-sign we encounter. Visibility is poor to the left because of a thick hedge on the southwest corner, and cars westbound on Union tend to be whipping along due to the hill. It's a crummy mix that's resulted in grabbing the brakes pretty hard a few times.
Let's continue to stay vigilant and be safe.

Re: Cumberland and Union
Thanks for the PSA Rolf. The roads have been carnage for the past few days.
Re: Cumberland and Union
Yes, plenty of chilling stories.
Apparently this intersection on Cumberland has been a concern for a while, partly because Union is possibly a connector for emergency services (as is Bay St., I think?)

Re: Cumberland and Union
There is a meeting of Saanich's Planning, Transportation, and Economic Development Advisory Committee at Municipal Hall at 5:30 this Thursday night that is open to members of the public, in case anyone is interested in attending. As I understand it, road safety and vulnerable road users will be part of the conversation.
